I am a second year arts student in a top college in india. i am really frustrated with the way arts education system is being handled here. There are hardly any practical sessions or workshops for developing vital skills required in professional working world. All the focus seems to be on theoritical concepts and essays which gets really boring after some time. And the worst part is the absence of mentorship and guidance after second year. Can any senior arts student share their valuable insights or recommendations on how to deal with these issues?

I would suggest finding opportunities to intern at arts galleries, museums, ad agencies or even assisting professional artists. Build your portfolio and get recommendations that can help in securing a good placement.

Take initiatives, form study groups and start working on live projects to build your profile. I am sure if you follow your passion and keep practicing, you will do great. Stop complaining and start creating!

If they are not willing to go that extra mile, they don’t deserve to call themselves artists. So what if college is not enough, utilize other resources and nurture your talent. Hard work always pays off.
