I am a second year medical student in India and confused between MBBS and BDS. Can someone help explain the major differences? I am interested in both helping people and having a stable career.
MBBS stands for bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery. It is a graduate medical degree for practicing allopathic medicine. BDS stands for bachelor of dental surgery, a graduate dental degree.
MBBS has a wider scope and career options compared to BDS. You can specialize in various fields like pediatrics, surgery, gynecology etc after MBBS but options are more limited after BDS.
Salaries tend to be higher for MBBS doctors compared to BDS dentists on average. However stability of income depends more on how you build your practice.
Both professions involve helping people maintain their health but in different ways. As a dentist you will focus more on oral health and correcting dental issues while as a doctor you have a broader role in general health and treatment of diseases.
