I’m a second year MBBS student and am having doubts regarding the minimum NEET cutoff scores required for admission into different government and private medical colleges. Can someone please explain how the cutoff scores are decided and what tends to be the average cutoff score for colleges across India?

The NEET cutoff scores vary every year based on the difficulty level of the exam as well as the number of applicants. The Medical Council of India generally decides the approximate cutoff scores based on these factors.

Government colleges usually have lower cutoffs compared to private colleges since they have more seats and receive more applications. The average NEET cutoff scores range from 500 to 600 for government colleges and 600 to 650 for private medical institutions.

Focus on quality, not quantity. Spending more time reading the material does not necessarily mean you understand it better. Study actively by summarizing, explaining concepts in your own words and testing yourself regularly.

Switch between subjects. Give your brain short breaks by alternating between theoretical and practical subjects. This will help you stay alert and motivated throughout your study schedule.
