I am currently in 12th commerce in India. I am unsure what to do after school. I like subjects like accounts, business studies and economics but I am confused about choosing between CA, CS, MBA and other finance related options. I don’t have any particular interest, just want a stable career with good salary. Please suggest some viable options for commerce students in India.

If you want a stable career with good pay then CA (Chartered Accountancy) is a good choice. It has the highest salary amongst all commerce stream options and is in high demand. You’ll have good growth prospects in finance, audit, tax and consulting fields. However the 3 CA exams are tough so be prepared to work hard.

Company Secretary (CS) is also a good option. It covers subjects like law, finance, company management etc. CS professionals are in demand and can get roles in companies as Secretary, Compliance Officer etc. The salary is slightly lower than CA initially but increases steadily with experience. The coursework and exams for CS are comparatively easy.

An MBA is a good long term choice if you have the inclination for management studies. After MBA from a good college, you’ll have wide career options in finance, marketing, operations etc. The salary is also very good post MBA. However, to get into a good B-school you’ll need to crack entrance exams like CAT, XAT, CMAT etc.
