Hey guys, I’m a second year medical student and I’m finding the muscle physiology chapter really hard. I’m specially confused in the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to understand it better? I’ll really appreciate any help.

I feel you man! Muscle physiology was a pain for me too. Watching animated videos really helped me vizualize the process. Then do a lotta practice questions, that really helped cement the concepts for me. Hope this helps!

Yo the key is visualizing all the parts involved – actin, myosin, tropomyosin etc. Draw out the process step by step. Then relate it to real life examples like twisting a door knob. Relate the sliding of the filaments to the twisting motion. This analogy really clarified things for me.

Check out Khan Academy videos..they really break down the concepts well. Also, making diagrams and charts helped me a ton to visualize the process and different proteins involved. All the best!
